HF WS Game 4: '47 Dodgers 5, '53 Dodgers 4

GAME 4 - 47-BKN 5, 53-BKN 4
Russ Meyer vs Harry Taylor

Walk of single

Same score, same result, slightly different scenario.  For the first time in the series the '53 bunch would score first.  A walk, a wild pitch and an error by Robinson at first would set up a 2 out RBI single by Furillo to make it 1-0.  '47 would answer back thanks to Meyer letting his guard down with 2 outs and giving up a triple to the opposing pitcher (Taylor).  Pistol Pete Reiser, who when he isn't running into walls and injuring himself, is some fine player.  Reiser slapped one to left center to score Taylor and knott the game at one all.  '53 would regain the lead in the top of the 6th when Jackie led off with a double and Skoonj singled him home with one out.  That 2-1 lead wouldn't last out the inning as '47 answered back with a 2 out / 2 run rally.  After Taylor led off the inning by striking out Reiser doubled.  Stanky grounded weakly to second for out number 2.  Jackie Robinson then came through with a clutch double to tie the game at 2 and "the People's Choice" Dixie Walker singled home Jacki for the go ahead run to make it 3-2.  '47 would add an insurance run with a sac fly in the 8th and all seemed good.  Taylor got 2 quick outs in the top of the 9th then was greeted with a long homer by pinch hitter Bobby Morgan to make it 4-3.  The little colonel, Pee Wee Reese lined a double into the gap to keep the inning going.  Junior Giliam came to the plate to face the fading Taylor, who was allowed to remain in the game.  Gilliam greeted Taylor with a lined single to right to tie the game at 4.  Hugh Casey had to come in from the pen to retire Robinson to end the inning, but the collateral damage was the 4-2 lead that the '47 team just squandered.  Hughes would start the 9th for '53 in hopes of keeping '47 at bay, so the game could head to extras.  He did not do well for his cause by walking the first 2 batters that he faced (Reese & Hermanski).  Catcher Bruce Edwards bunted both runners over and Spider Jorgensen delivered a game winning RBI single.
